Statement
When I was 15
years old, my dad won a Minolta SLR camera, and that is when I
became very interested in photography. I took most of the photos
during our family vacations. Trips to various locations
throughout the United States honed my interest in photographing
nature and wildlife. A three year stint in a photo-developing
lab gave me invaluable insights into the world of photography.
I now have over
17 years of professional photography experience. I photographed
my first wedding at age 19 and continued until 2002, when I
decided to concentrate on wildlife and scenic photography. In
1997, I started my own business. My extensive travels across the
United States offered photographic opportunities from the East
Coast to the Grand Canyon.
My vision is to
preserve history through my photography. I enjoy riding the back
roads of Kentucky and surrounding states seeking historical
structures and unique scenery that goes unnoticed by every day
travelers. I take pleasure in the fact that my photography
captures the current conditions of the scenery and/or historical
structure. I strive to capture their beauty and essence; and
seek to tell its unique story of days gone by through
photographic expression.
My photography
has been displayed at the Central Bank Gallery, the Kentucky
Room in the Singletary Center for the Arts on the University of
Kentucky campus, the KY Human Resources Building in Frankfort
and the Lexington Opera House. It also has been displayed at
numerous Lexington Art League shows in the Loudon House and at
the offices of the Kentucky Guild for Artists and Craftsman.
I have tempered
my skills through a “hands on” approach to the world of
photography. I typically use manual and automatic Minolta
cameras. I use 35mm color and B/W films. My photographs are not
digitally altered or enhanced in any way. I use a tripod and a
circular polarizer filter for most of my work.
As my business
grew, so did my personal life. In 1999 I married Gregory G.
Yates. Greg is originally from Mayfield, KY. Greg is a US Army
retiree having served for more than 24 years. He and our son
Grissom and daughter Ainsley are vital components of my current photography
excursions. We currently reside in Winchester, KY.
